Fate of Delaware’s Marijuana Laws Ride on Election Results

Delaware Marijuana Laws

Voters will decide on February 25 if Republicans regain control of Delaware’s Senate or if the Democrats hold their position. The outcome could greatly impact the progress of marijuana legalization in the state, especially if Republicans regain control after 44-years of a Democratic-controlled Senate.

It appears that there is more support for marijuana decriminalization than legalization, according to Delaware Online. Democrat Stephanie Hansen and Republican John Marino support decriminalization. Both also remain hesitant regarding full legalization.

Some Delaware lawmakers, and those seeking election want to take the “wait and see” approach when it comes to marijuana.

The opinion of candidate Joseph Lanzendorfer is completely different. He supports full marijuana legalization. His plans would be to use the tax revenue to fund schools.

He is a Libertarian candidate. Lanzendorfer said, “My presence in the Senate alone would create the best of both worlds and better legislation for all.”

When it comes to legalizing recreational marijuana, Hansen said, “I think we’re on the right track, but before full legalization, I want to make sure we have a handle on determining when somebody is too impaired to drive and to work.”

John Marino doesn’t have enough “evidence” available to him to change gain his support of legal recreational marijuana.
