Are Marijuana Concentrate Vape Pens Safe to Use?

Vaping Safe

Many wonder how safe marijuana concentrate vape pens are, especially with so many e-cigarettes catching on fire recently. One of the benefits of marijuana vape pens is that they aren’t used as frequently as a tobacco vape pen, so their coils and batteries are less likely to overheat and cause problems. There can be hazards with any electronic device, but if the benefits outweigh the risks: Why not indulge?

Propylene Glycol

The use of propylene glycol is common for vaporizing liquids in both marijuana and e-cigarette liquids/concentrates. When this mixing agent is heated with high voltage, it is said to create a cancer-causing chemical called carbonyl. Yet, the FDA recognizes propylene glycol as being “generally recognized as safe.”

Propylene glycol does have a rather low oral toxicity rate, which is why food manufacturers use it as a food additive often.

Safely Dosing

It’s almost impossible to determine what a proper dose is based upon hits from a vape pen. What you need to do is determine what your personal tolerance is. Take one decent pull from your vape pen and wait about 10 minutes. If you need more, have another pull. Remember though, the harder you pull, the more bigger the actual “hit” you’re taking in is.

You can choke, even with a vape pen. Some concentrates are strong, so take it easy to start with.

General Safety

Try to store your vape pen on a level surface. Your cartridges should also be stored on a flat surface. It keeps everything balanced and reduces the chances of a spontaneous combustion in your pocket. Only charge your vape pen as long as the package says to, over-charging the battery can become a hazard during use.

Closing Thoughts

When all is said and done, vape pens can actually be healthier for you than smoking dry marijuana flower and tobacco products. They are costly and can last up to a week or more for light users. But, they are portable and allow you to consume discreetly.

Remember though, you still shouldn’t hit your vape pen and go out for a drive because you can still get a DUI for being under the influence of marijuana. Please vape responsibly!
